SQL Server Error Message:

"Msg 821, Level 20, State 1, Line 1 Could not unhash buffer at 0x%p with a buffer page number of %S_PGID and database ID %d with HASHED status set. The buffer was not found. %S_PAGE."

What and Why "this Error":

This error occurs when a Microsoft SQL Server finds a problem with a statement issued by the current process. This could be because of many reasons like :

  • File level corruption
  • Statement tried to access a corrupted page
  • Current statement tried to find record on missing or corrupted page/record/file/index
  • Statement tried to access a corrupted table / index
  • Data is changed after processed.

Action Required to resolve this Error:

Try Executing the same statement again, if you still get error message then

You need to check database consistency to confirm there is no corruption in the database by running statements

DBCC CHECKCATALOG , DBCC CHECKTABLE and DBCC CHECKDB

If the index is corrupted, rebuild the index

you also might want to append with (update lock)  clause in your query.

  1. Severity level 20 indicates a problem with a statement issued by the current process.

    %x means Hexadecimal number value
    %ls or %.*ls means Character string value
